A Message from Elhaam Academy | Teaching Values with Faith
As we prepare for the sacred days of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, it’s the perfect time to teach our children the values of faith, compassion, and gratitude. At Elhaam Academy, we believe Islamic education begins at home and is nurtured in the classroom. That’s why we encourage our young learners to actively participate in the spirit of Qurbani (Udhiyah) not just by witnessing the act, but by understanding its meaning and applying its lessons.
What Is Qurbani?
Qurbani is the act of sacrificing an animal (goat, sheep, cow, or camel) during Eid al-Adha to honor the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his beloved son Ismail (AS) in obedience to Allah’s command. It is a deep symbol of submission, trust, and devotion.
Why Is It Important to Involve Children in Qurbani?
Children are the future of our Ummah. Involving them in religious traditions like Qurbani helps them:
Build a strong Islamic identity
Understand the values of sacrifice and generosity
Develop empathy for the less fortunate
Strengthen their connection to Allah (SWT)
7 Ways Muslim Kids Can Participate and Earn Blessings During Qurbani
- Learn the Story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS)
Encourage your child to read or listen to the story of Ibrahim (AS) and Ismail (AS). This helps them understand the purpose behind Qurbani and builds appreciation for obedience and faith. - Recite Takbeer with Family
From the day of Eid until the last day of Tashreeq, kids can join in saying Takbeer (Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar…). This simple act brings immense rewards and creates a spiritual atmosphere at home. - Make Dua for the Ummah
Teach your child to make heartfelt dua for the poor, the sick, and those who are struggling across the world. Qurbani is about sharing and caring, and dua is a powerful gift they can offer. - Help Distribute Qurbani Meat
Children can help pack or distribute Qurbani meat to neighbors or local charities under adult supervision. This hands-on experience teaches charity and kindness. - Wear Clean and Modest Clothes on Eid
Wearing clean, respectful attire on Eid reflects the sunnah and the beauty of Islam. Help your child feel proud to dress with dignity and joy on this blessed day. - Say Eid Mubarak and Show Good Manners
Eid is a time of celebration, but it’s also a time to display the best of Islamic character. Teach children to greet others warmly, be patient, and share smiles — all of which are forms of sadaqah (charity). - Thank Allah for His Blessings
Whether it’s by saying Alhamdulillah, helping prepare Eid meals, or showing gratitude to parents, kids should learn to recognize Allah’s endless blessings.
Bonus Tip: Attend Eid Salah Together
Eid Salah is a communal act that strengthens unity. If possible, bring your children to the mosque to witness the beauty of the congregation. It leaves a lasting impact on their hearts.
